Goodbye XUV500, Hello Hycross: My 1.2 Lakh Km journey & a new beginning

Sometimes, we find reasons to justify our actions. Selling a car is one such situation to me, I end up finding reasons to justify my decision to sell

My Bear, XUV5OO, bids adieu!

Started with Aveo, a family car deemed too old to sustain a few years into my marriage. Followed by Jazz getting too small to accommodate our growing appetite for travel with the full family. And now XUV. In all three times, the action of selling has been kind of abrupt; there were recurring cues which ended with a sudden done, sold.

At about quarter to 7 years, with approximately 1.2 Lakh kilometers in odo, running fantastically at least when not in MASS, the XUV gets sold pretty much straight out of the service station.

New upholstery is yet to be rubbed in, plenty of miles remaining in the shoes, a tank full of fuel prepped for the tour, which sealed its fate. Alas, that is all I could tag along. Three times in three consecutive long trips, plenty of money pumped, time for ArB to bid adieu to XUV, my bear.

As I bid goodbye, I could reminisce, our family time with the XUV. It straddled along with me and my better halves in our adventures, taking the highs and lows in its might, and I wish the same for whoever ends up with it. It’s a beast, drive well, find a FNG you can work with, and hopefully it will perform to its last.

A few more pictures in the basement, we said goodbye!

Change is the only constant, and for my family, Hycross takes the baton!

Quick TLDR version –

  • XUV sold
  • Purchased Hycross
  • Life moves on!

Details are always welcome, so here are few –

  • My aversion to Hycross is well recorded in this thread, irrespective of that the value offered by Hycross is beyond match and ergo, I caved in to buy one available immediately.
  • My basest need in XUV replacement was to have room for 7 and their baggage well within the five doors of the car, in here Hycross and Gloster excels in comparison to any other 7-seater car available in the market south of sixty lac.
  • Second most important aspect was reliability. Never have experienced Toyota before first-hand, but hear say seems better than other manufacturers out there. So taking my bet with Toyota. That kicks Gloster out of consideration.
  • The next intent was to have all bells and whistles feasible fitted by the manufacturer, absolutely not keen to run for secondary accessories. Again Hycross is kitted well, perhaps not best in the quality aspect but I am presuming should do good for my use case.
  • Given the three offering from Toyota, Fortuner tugged my heart the most and at the same time disappointed the most in terms of my basest need. Crysta was a mix, liked the diesel grunt, seemingly better built but twenty years too old. Leaving Hycross as the only contender.

Introducing MY Hycross as dark as my heart (pun? maybe, maybe not). Jungle references will take time, awaiting a healthy dosage of concoctions.
