Madharaasi struggles as advance bookings stay weak

After the blockbuster success of Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan is now gearing up for the worldwide release of Madharaasi on September 5. The film was expected to open big at the box office, but its advance bookings tell a different story.

Pre bookings for HISTORY ASSOCIATION have opened across many centres, yet the response has been very weak. Reports reveal that in several places, not even 10 tickets have been sold so far, which has surprised both fans and trade experts.

As of yesterday, only 15.5K tickets were sold through Book My Show. This is almost 90 percent lower than Amaran, which had 102K advance bookings four days before its release, setting a high benchmark for Sivakarthikeyan.

Strong rumours suggest that, due to the poor response, Sivakarthikeyan and the production team are considering buying tickets worth 5 crores in select centres to improve numbers. This speculation has sparked fresh debates on social media.

Some users are trolling Sivakarthikeyan, saying Amaran’s 350 crores box office collection was only a fluke and that the success came because it was a biopic of Major Mukund Varadarajan. They argue that he is yet to prove himself as a big star.

Trade experts too are surprised at the dull buzz surrounding Madharaasi. Many believe only strong word of mouth after release can help the film gain momentum and avoid being declared a disappointment in theatres.

With its release set for September 5, the next few days will be crucial for Madharaasi. Whether the film can turn weak pre bookings into a blockbuster success remains to be seen.
