Commuting to work on a unicycle: My experience

Commuting to work on a unicycle: My experience BHPian supermax recently shared this with other enthusiasts:My Experience With A UnicycleI’ve commuted to work on my unicycles on a couple of occasions, and it requires some extra planning, like keeping my backpack light, taking with me a change of clothes etc, as the workout is way more intense than just a bike ride. In order to make it easier to grab the odd opportunity for shorter unicycle rides, I decided earlier this year, to leave one of my unicycles at my workplace permanently. The unicycle in question is the smallest in my stables, a 20″ unicycle with a special green tire that doesn’t leave marks on the floor, unlike tires with the normal black compound. I use it from time to time, to ride around the corridors and the coffee area, when there’s few or no people around. Today, I’d planned to go for a post lunch ride, so remembered to take a change of clothes with me to work. The temperature was 18C and overcast, but rain-free, so I went out for a ride. Once outside, I realized that it was fantastic fun to ride the small wheel around the campus! I initially wanted to do a 15-20 minute ride, but so loved the ride that I kept going for what was a good half hour post lunch ride, during which I rode 3.8 km I hit a top speed of 10.7 km, which required quite a bit of spinning. If I get used to spinning faster on smaller wheels, I suppose I might be able to get more speed out of my bigger wheels. Fun can come in small packages too!
