Kavitha decides to quit as MLC and from primary membership of BRS after suspension; not to join any party

A day after the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leadership suspended MLC K. Kavitha from the partyshe has decided to resign as the MLC by sending a letter to the Legislative Council Chairman in the proper format. Ms. Kavitha also announced that she is quitting from the primary membership of the party.

Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Jagaruthi — the social and cultural outfit headed by her — office in Hyderabad on Wednesday (September 3, 2025), Ms. Kavitha said she would obey the party’s decision but said in the same breathe that it was due to pressure from the party leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao the party supremo and her father K. Chandrashekar Rao was forced to take the harsh decision against her.

What next?

Ms. Kavitha made it clear that she would not join any party and would decide on her future course of action after speaking to the Jagruthi members, Telangana intellectuals and supporters of Telangana and her decision would only benefit Telangana. Her decision to quit as MLC and primary membership of the party was only to prove her integrity, she said.

Listing various initiatives she took from November 23, 2024 — after she was released from jail — including round table conferences, protests, and writing on women’s reservation, Ms. Kavitha asked if all of it were “anti-party activities”.

Conspiracy to disintegrate KCR’s family

Ms. Kavitha asserted that her family — Mr. Chandrashekar Rao, brother K. T. Rama Rao, and her — will be together regardless of the situation. She alleged that there is a conspiracy to disintegrate her family, and the first episode of it was her suspension from the party. Ms. Kavitha claimed Mr. KCR and Mr. KTR too have the same threat.

Stating that it was more than 100 days since she addressed a letter to the party chief raising concerns over the party affairs and some leaders creating a gap between the party leaders and cadre with the party president, Ms. Kavitha said her concerns remained unaddressed till date. There was, however, no action against those who leaked her letter to the media.

Salvos against Harish and Santosh

Firing fresh salvos at Mr. Harish Rao and Mr. Santosh Rao, particularly the former, she said he [Mr. Harish Rao] would call himself a troubleshooter in the party but he was only a ‘bubble’ maker and shooter. He would create a problem and portray himself that he had resolved it. She alleged that there was a conspiracy going in the party to take over the organisation by backstabbing KCR and working president K.T. Rama Rao.

Ms. Kavitha, daughter of KCR, said she felt bad when her brother KTR did not even enquire or call her when she said in the party office that there was a conspiracy going on against her in the party. Turning back to Mr. Harish Rao and Mr. Santosh Rao, she said “Bangaru Telangana” would not mean the two leaders’ accumulating gold but people getting the fruits of welfare and development initiatives.

Harish was against floating TRS in 2001

She recollected how Mr. Harish Rao was against KCR floating a party (TRS) in 2001 after quitting as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. She further alleged that people were very much aware of how he maintained relations with late Y.S. Rajasekhara Rao and now A. Revanth Reddy against the party’s interests. His bond with Mr. Revanth Reddy strengthened after they travelled in the same flight to Delhi once.

Accusing Mr. Harish Rao of conspiring to split the KCR’s family by creating differences within, she said KCR was facing the CBI probe in the issue of Kaleshwaram Project due to corruption by Mr. Harish Rao and Mr. Santosh Rao. She also cited several instances of Mr. Harish Rao’s actions against party’s interests including a plan to field a second candidate from BRS along with D. Sravan to split the party vote and benefit rival parties.

Further she alleged that Mr. Harish Rao sent ₹60 lakh to Sircilla to defeat KTR, funded about 25 party candidates to have his own group, that he was the reason for leaders such as T. Jayaprakash (Jagga) Reddy, G. Vijayarama Rao, M. Vijayashanti, M. Raghunandan Rao, Cheruku Srinivas Reddy, Eatala Rajender quitting the party and also responsible for the party’s defeat in the by-elections to Dubbak and Huzurabad.
