Govt. proposes fee slabs for registration renewal of older vehicles

Govt. proposes fee slabs for registration renewal of older vehicles Last month, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification proposing a hike in the registration renewal fee for vehicles older than 20 years. The government has now made some changes to the draft amendments, calling for hikes in fitness testing and certificate renewal fees based on the vehicle’s age. The government has proposed separate fee slabs for vehicles over 10, 13, 15, and 20 years old. Currently, the renewal fee for vehicles that are over 20 years old is the same as for 15+ year-old vehicles, which will be doubled under the amendment. The government has proposed the merger of the manual and automated testing slabs. Vehicles between 15-20 years old will be charged Rs 500 for motorcycles, Rs 1,000 for 3-wheelers/LMVs, Rs 1,300 for medium goods/passenger vehicles and Rs 1,500 for heavy goods/passenger vehicles. For 20+ year old vehicles, charges will be set at Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000, Rs 2,600 and Rs 3,000, respectively. The government has also proposed a revision in fitness certificate renewal fees. For motorcycles, 3-wheelers and cars between 10-15 years old, the fee will be Rs 200. The renewal fee will be set at Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 for medium/heavy vehicles between 10-13 years and 13-15 years old, respectively. But motorcycles, 3-wheelers, cars/light vehicles, medium vehicles, and heavy vehicles that are over 20 years old will be charged Rs 2,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively.
