Genelia deshmukh is ready to surprise audiences with a fierce new avatar in Gunmaster G9, starring alongside Emraan Hashmi. For over two decades, she has been known as the bubbly girl-next-door, from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) to her recent Sitaare Zameen Par.
This time, producer Deepak Mukut promises a different Genelia, standing strong in an action role with Emraan. Interestingly, it was Riteish Deshmukh who nudged her to sign the film, reminding her that “a homemaker can become Durga when family is harmed.”
The move signals a fresh image for Genelia, yet it also reflects how Bollywood often portrays women in action only with a protective, family-centred lens. Still, the casting choice has created curiosity among fans.
Gunmaster G9 also reunites Emraan Hashmi with director Aditya Datt. Their earlier film Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005) delivered cult music and stylish thrills. Mukut is confident this project will bring back Emraan’s mix of romance, action, and hit songs.
The shoot will begin post-Diwali in Uttarakhand with a start-to-finish schedule. The makers are eyeing an early 2026 release, aiming to deliver a complete action entertainer for audiences.
Yet the big question remains whether this bold experiment works. Genelia has long been typecast as sunshine, not steel. Whether Gunmaster G9 truly redefines her career or uses her as a surprise element in Emraan’s story is still uncertain.
Bollywood has often promised actresses fierce avatars but fallen back on stereotypes. Only time will show if Genelia’s reinvention in Gunmaster G9 breaks that cycle.
