Demolition works for Old City Metro nears completion

Hyderabad: The Old City Metro Rail project has entered a crucial phase, with land acquisition and demolition works nearing completion, said Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) managing director NVS Reddy on Sunday.Of the initially estimated 1,100 affected properties, engineering innovations have reduced the number to 886. Over 550 structures have been demolished, and Rs 433 crore in compensation has been disbursed. “We are close to achieving the full Right of Way (RoW),” said Reddy.Officials said that preparatory works, including DGPS surveys, soil testing, and underground utility relocation, are in full swing. Agencies such as GHMC, water board, TGSPDCL, and BSNL are coordinating to shift water, sewage, electric, and telecom lines.Advanced tools like ground penetrating radar (GPR) and high-precision GNSS systems are being used for mapping and positioning. Sensitive heritage structures along the route have been carefully considered, with pillar placements adjusted accordingly.
