Anushka’s comeback to cinema with her new film Ghaati has turned into a disappointing box office story. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film released this Friday to poor reviews from both critics and audiences. Its opening numbers were dismal and the weekend showed no signs of recovery, pushing it towards a massive disaster.
The struggle is visible not only in India but also in the US. Ghaati managed only $47K on its North America opening day, with premieres contributing just $20K. Collections remain weak with no signs of growth.
In two days, the film grossed around $66K. Sunday shows saw more declines, and it may not cross $75K in its first weekend. Even with possible midweek offers, the total might stay near $90K. Reaching $100K in the US now seems highly unlikely.
There had been strong hopes that Anushka’s presence would draw in audiences. Krish, known for films including NTR’s biopic, also carried goodwill. But the collaboration has not worked out as expected, leaving Ghaati a disappointing setback for everyone involved.
