The Leela Hyderabad has unveiled a unique cultural initiative that celebrates Telangana’s famed Pochampally Ikat, weaving together heritage, fashion, and hospitality. The luxury property, located in Banjara Hills, has incorporated the region’s iconic double Ikat into design elements, associate attire, and guest experiences—transforming the hotel into a living canvas of handloom elegance.
The Pochampally Ikat, one of the world’s most intricate handloom traditions, is crafted using a labor-intensive tie-and-dye technique on both warp and weft threads. Known for its vivid patterns and mathematical precision, the weave places Telangana alongside global counterparts such as Japan’s Kasuri and Indonesia’s Patola.
By partnering with local weaving communities, The Leela Hyderabad has commissioned handwoven fabrics that replace machine-made alternatives across upholstery, drapery, ceremonial rituals, and uniforms. Female associates now wear custom-woven Ikat sarees during Aarthi, the brand’s signature evening ritual, while male associates and leadership don handcrafted Ikat ties and pocket squares.
“At The Leela Hyderabad, we are privileged to be custodians of a cultural legacy that continues to thrive through the hands of master weavers. By integrating Pochampally Ikat into the very rhythm of our hotel—be it through rituals, design, or attire—we seek to create a living tribute to the heritage of Telangana,” said Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, General Manager, The Leela Hyderabad.
As Hyderabad cements its reputation as a hub for innovation and global enterprise, The Leela Hyderabad is positioning itself as a destination where modern luxury is rooted in cultural authenticity—blending contemporary hospitality with India’s artisanal heritage.
