A man has been arrested by police investigating reports of online abuse aimed at Doncaster Rovers footballer Jordan Gibson,
Rovers said the "abhorrent" comments were made in a social media post following the team’s 3-1 win over Bradford City on Saturday.
West Yorkshire Police said a 28-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of a malicious communications offence and remains in custody.
Bradford City AFC said it was aware of the comments and was fully co-operating with police.
Doncaster said in a statement: "All at Rovers are appalled at racist abuse directed towards one of our players following Saturday’s win over Bradford City.
"The content of a social media post has been reported to South Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police, the EFL and X and the club will assist subsequent investigations as much as possible."
Police said officers were working with both clubs in relation to the incident.
A spokesperson for Bradford City said: "We are fully cooperating with West Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Police investigations.
"The club would like to reiterate its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discrimination."
Gibson scored in the League One game at the Eco-Power Stadium at the weekend.
