Nayanthara’s Netflix wedding documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale has landed in fresh trouble. Production house AB International approached the Madras High Court, claiming that scenes from their film Chandramukhi were included without permission. The matter was heard again on Wednesday.
The court has issued notices to Tark Studios, the producers of the documentary, asking them to respond by October 6. AB International has demanded that the unauthorized footage be removed and sought Rs. 5 crores in compensation for the alleged copyright violation.
Despite earlier notices, the documentary continues to stream with the disputed content. This has led AB International to ask the court for further directions, including disclosure of earnings made so far by Tark Studios through the documentary’s streaming on Netflix.
The documentary, which follows Nayanthara’s wedding with director Vignesh Shivan, was released last year. Alongside this case, actor Dhanush also moved the Madras High Court, alleging that scenes from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan were used without permission. He has sought Rs. 10 crores in damages.
Netflix challenged Dhanush’s claim, but the High Court dismissed the petition. The outcome of these cases is being watched closely, as they may set a precedent for how content from films is handled in future celebrity documentaries and streaming releases.
