Telangana revenue dept to process Sadabainama land applications

Hyderabad: As the Telangana high court recently cleared the way for processing applications filed under Sadabainama, the revenue department has issued a notification to process over nine lakh applications for the regularisation of unregistered land transactions. Sadabainama land refers to agricultural land that was sold through a simple, unregistered sale deed, and was only recorded on paper but not in official land records.According to the revenue department, the applications received between Oct 12, 2020 and Nov 10, 2020, during the BRS govt tenure, will now be processed. Earlier, the high court had stayed the processing of the applications, noting that there was no provision in the Right of Records (ROR) Act, 1971, which has since been incorporated into the Telangana Bhu Bharati Act by the Congress govt.“Provisions were made for processing the applications under subsection (1) of section 6 of the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land), 2025, for the issue of a certificate of alienee or the transferee declaring that such alienation or transfer made is valid ‘where any small or marginal farmer acquired rights over agricultural land by virtue of an alienation or transfer made or effected otherwise than by a registered document before June 2, 2014, evidencing possession for more than 12 years and an application is submitted to the Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Passbooks Act 1971 from October 12, 2020, and November 10, 2020,” the amendment said.Of the nine lakh applications, the high court stayed over 6.74 lakh that were submitted after Oct 29, 2020, while permitting an inquiry into 2.26 lakh applications filed between Oct 12 and Oct 29, 2020, subject to the outcome of the case.
