Vijayawada: Amid a diarrhoea outbreak in New RR Pet colony in the city, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner HM Dhyanachandra directed the public health department officials to conduct a special checking drive at all private RO water plants. They were instructed to check for trade licences and the latest water quality testing lab reports.At a virtual conference with HoDs of all departments on Thursday, the municipal commissioner ordered the closure of those water plants operating without a valid trade licence and the latest water quality testing lab reports. He instructed officials to permit only those RO water plants with a valid water quality testing report to supply drinking water in the city. He ordered the officials to submit a comprehensive report on the total number of private RO water plants operating in the city.Meanwhile, Dhyanachandra advised the residents of New RR Pet colony to boil water before consuming it, while asking them to use piped water only for domestic household works such as washing and cleaning purposes. He said drinking water would be supplied through water tankers and water cans until the diarrhoea situation subsides in the area.
