After making a strong pitch for a greenfield highway connecting the upcoming Bharat Future City in Telangana with Machilipatnam port in Andhra PradeshChief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has underscored the need for an exclusive railway line for the Telangana industrial sector.

To facilitate Telangana’s exports

The Chief Minister favoured the new railway line to be operated between Bharat Future City and Machilipatnam port aligning with the greenfield highway he had mooted to facilitate exports from the State to other parts of the country and abroad. This was in addition to the regional ring rail, along side the Regional Ring Road (RRR) spanning 362 km as it would change the face of the State Capital.

The Chief Minister who reviewed the status of the ongoing railway projects in the State with senior officials in Hyderabad on Thursday (September 11, 2025), reminded that the Central Government had assured rapid rail and road connectivity between the State Capital and Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Future City—Machilipatnam port 12-lane greenfield highway

He recalled that the State Government had requested the Centre to sanction 12-lane greenfield highway connecting the Future City with Machilipatnam port. Detailed proposals relating to the more than 300 km stretch were already prepared by the State Government. Officials concerned should accordingly work out the modalities for establishing a railway line taking into consideration the alignment being examined by the Railway Ministry as well as that prepared by the State Government.

The proposed railway line should be along with the greenfield highway as it was proposed to develop and extend industrial corridor within one and half kilometres of the two sides of the proposed route.

The Chief Minister assured that the State Government would extend its fullest cooperation in speedy completion of railway projects and new railway lines. In addition to providing the required funds, the Government was geared up for taking up land acquisition wherever necessary.

He wanted the officials to factor in future needs in planning the alignments of the projects so that the distance between the destinations was reduced and the cost estimates should also be brought down. The new railway lines should not only provide accelerated movement of passengers but also enable all round development of the areas through which they pass through. Focus should be on tourist centres and catering to the industrial needs and steps should be taken to modernise the road, rail and port connectivity in line with the developed countries.

Vikarabad-krishna new railway line

While developing the greenfield projects, officials should examine the scope for survey and alignment of high speed rail projects between Hyderabad-Chennai and Hyderabad-Bengaluru. Officials were asked to commence works on Vikarabad-Krishna new railway line at the earliest and expeditiously complete the detailed project report pertaining to Gadwal-Dornakal line.
