Hyderabad: Telangana’s anti-drug agency EAGLE arrested three people on Saturday for allegedly manufacturing Alprazolam on school premises in Bowenpally. During the search, the police seized 3.5 kg of drugs worth ₹1 crore and recovered ₹21 lakh in cash, which was the proceeds from a two-day sale. The arrested individuals were identified as the school owner Jaya Prakash Goud, driver P Uday Sai and the drug transporter G Murali. Jaya Prakash was operating the school, where around 110 children were studying, while keeping the illegal activity under the wraps.Acting on a tip-off, the police searched the school and found a room at the back of the building where Alprazolam was being manufactured. The cellar of the building was also being used for this purpose.Police are investigating when Jaya Prakash started manufacturing Alprazolam on the school premises. “He has been supplying the drug to toddy compounds. In the past, he himself ran a toddy business in Mahabubnagar,” police added.Officials are also trying to establish where Jaya Prakash was accessing the chemical precursors. Some companies operating as business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) are also under EAGLE radar for supplying the precursors to Jaya Prakash. This is the first time that Jaya Prakash has come under police scrutiny.During the searches, several drums used for storing chemicals, a gas stove and other equipment were also found in the room. According to the police, a small reactor was used to manufacture alprazolam. The reactor was capable of producing 5 kg of the contraband in a single run.Once the locals found out that drugs were being manufactured on school premises, many parents reached out to the school.
