Skoda confirms a small EV for India, but it’s not the Epiq

Skoda confirms a small EV for India, but it’s not the Epiq Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer has said that the brand is preparing for a “big game” in the EV segment in India. It plans to localize the CMP21 platform, which was developed for the Chinese market. Besides this, a small EV is also in the pipeline. “We’re one of the most profitable volume car manufacturers in the world, but we depend very much on Europe, and to depend just on one region is not a good idea,” Zellmer said.”So, we want to develop a second pillar or second leg that we stand on, and the second leg clearly is India,” he added. When asked if Skoda plans to bring the Epiq EV to India, Zellmer said, “With India, we actually have a different plan than bringing over the cars that we sell there in Europe, like the Epiq… We currently do not have a plan to bring it to India. We want to have a car that is made for India, and then (made) in India.” The CEO revealed that Skoda is working on bringing over another small battery electric vehicle to India in order to meet CO2 emission norms. However, he stopped short of sharing details about the new small EV, saying, “Nothing we can go deeper at this point in time.” Source:Business Standard
