YSR Congress Shifts Stand on Capital Again

The YSR Congress Party has once again shifted its stance on the Andhra Pradesh Capital issue. Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy recently addressed the topic after the party’s 2024 election defeat.

He claimed that Jagan Mohan Reddy will continue to operate from Tadepalli even after 2029, regardless of whether the party returns to power. There will be no move to Visakhapatnam, he said.

Sajjala denied the three Capitals plan, saying the Opposition spread false propaganda. According to him, the party only aimed for decentralised development, not multiple capitals.

He stated that even if YSR Congress wins in 2029, they will continue with the capital location between Vijayawada and Guntur. This sudden shift, however, has drawn scepticism from many quarters.

Between 2019 and 2024, the YSR Congress openly pushed for three capitals, a move witnessed by the entire nation. Denying that effort now appears disingenuous to many.

The 2019 elections also saw the party making similar promises about Amaravati, but its actions later contradicted them. Many believe this double-dealing left Andhra Pradesh without a proper capital.

Had Amaravati been continued, the state would have had a functional and progressing capital city by now. Instead, political games have caused years of uncertainty.

Public mistrust remains high, especially since the party skipped the Amaravati 2.0 programme despite being invited. Meanwhile, Sakshi Media and allied outlets continue to target Amaravati negatively.

Often during rains, old and misleading videos are circulated, claiming that Amaravati is submerged. Such repeated attempts to discredit the region fuel doubts about YSR Congress’ intentions.

Even after 18 months since the 2024 loss, Jagan Mohan Reddy has not made a clear statement about Amaravati. Except for indirect propaganda, he has avoided addressing the capital issue directly.
