Hyderabad police have uncovered a drug manufacturing racket being run from the premises of a private school, leading to the arrest of three people, including the institution’s director.

According to officials, Malela Jaya Prakash Goud, director of Medha School, had converted parts of the school building—particularly a restricted section on the second floor—into a clandestine facility for producing Alprazolam, a psychotropic drug banned under narcotics laws and often mixed with toddy.

During the raid, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) found a fully equipped laboratory containing eight reactors and dryers designed for large-scale drug production.

Police seized more than 7 kilograms of Alprazolam, Rs 21 lakh in cash, raw chemicals, and manufacturing equipment from the site.

Preliminary investigations revealed the operation had been active for nearly six months, with production reportedly taking place six days a week and deliveries arranged on Sundays.

Investigators said Goud learned the process from an associate, Guruvareddy, and supplied the substance to toddy depots in Mahabubnagar.

What makes the case more alarming is that while regular classes for students continued on the ground and first floors, the illegal unit was functioning in secrecy above them.

Goud and his two accomplices are now in custody as authorities expand their investigation into the wider supply network.
