Sudanese national deported after 12 years of illegal stay & drug-related offences

Hyderabad: Sleuths from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) deported a Sudanese national on Sept 12 for overstaying his visa. Officials said he was also a habitual drug user and an active member of the drug trafficking network in the city. The convict has been identified as 34-year-old Mohamed Yagoub Mohamed Ali from Garsala in Sudan. He first came to Telangana in July 2012 to study at PG College in Secunderabad, where he met a Tanzanian national. He was first arrested in 2018 by Kushaiguda police for being in possession of eight wet ganja plants, and was released on bail in 2019.He was convicted again in 2020 for possessing ganja and was released on bail in 2021. Around this time, he started actively trafficking drugs and maintaining links with drug peddlers.Ali was arrested by the HNEW on Sept 24, 2024, alongside another Sudanese national who was found in possession of MDMA. During his interrogation, it emerged that his visa had expired 12 years earlier and that he was not in possession of valid travel documents. However, HNEW’s deportation bid hit a hurdle when it emerged that the man was facing trial in a 2019 NDPS case in Rajendranagar. With proceedings pending before the XIII Additional District & Sessions Judge in LB Nagar, the deportation was stalled and the trial was delayed by almost 11 months. The trial concluded on Aug 1, after which Ali was deported back to Sudan on Sept 12 by a team from HNEW.
