160km ride with my new KTM 390 Adventure: First impressions

160km ride with my new KTM 390 Adventure: First impressions BHPian PatienceWins recently shared this with other enthusiasts: I varied the rpm and did not exceed speed limit considering run in.My experience:1. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase as it meets my use case of touring. I have delegated my other bike, Honda CBR 250, to commuter duties. The performance on the highway is very good. 2. Suspension: The suspension is perfect for touring. It handles the undulations well and provide adequate feedback. 3. Features: Cruise control and quick shifter makes the highway riding experience very enjoyable. I took the newly opened Satellite town ring road in Bangalore and I could try all the features and settings on the vacant highway. 4. Ride Modes: I am going to keep ride mode as Off road by default, especially in city as the lower end torque is much better. Street gives a more relaxed ride with better refinement. Rain is useless on highway with no top end. 5. Vibration: The vibration is there on foot peg and handle bar – more pronounced on the foot peg, especially around 5k rpm. The cruising sweet spot I found was 100 kmph in 6th gear at around 6k rpm. Planning to get handlebar grip, grip puppies. I have it on CBR and love them for their feel (I am 6′ 2″ tall with big hands) and less vibrations. I think it would reduce handlebar vibrations to a small extent. Hope vibration would reduce after first service. 6. Fuel efficiency. The display shows 26 kmpl for the 160 kms trip. I mostly rode the bike within 5k rpm by varying speeds, for run-in. Seems the bike would give good mileage if ridden sanely – difficult on highway with this engine.Accessories planned:1. Grip puppies handlebar grip, as mentioned above. 2. I need handlebar riser, more towards me. Zana is the only angular one I find in indian market, but it has only 1 inch height. I think Angular, 2 inch one would be perfect for my height (6′ 2″). Zana risers. Let me know if there is any 2 inch riser I should consider. 3. Fork seal cover for the USD fork. 4. Seat modification – The seat will not be comfortable (cushion wise and under thigh support wise) for the long trips I plan to do. The butt became uncomfortable at the end of the short 160 kms ride itself. Increased seat height with seat modification is not an issue for me as I can easily flat foot the bike. 5. Aux lights. The default headlight is very good for normal city use, but not sufficient for pitch dark roads. Also, I see that the high beam has to be leveled down – need to figure out from the manual.Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
