BHPian Chetan_Rao recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Oil cooler placement and component choices are both questionable on the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol. Plus, Tata ASC’s competence in replacing components where bad sealing can be catastrophic isn’t very confidence-inspiring. Here are two pictures for reference: 1. The cooler is mounted on the front of the block right below the turbo oil return line and near the exhaust manifold, in arguably one of the hottest and worst ventilated nooks of the engine bay. Accessing it for replacement is a big chore. On the tightly packaged JTP, the front and the exhaust manifold had to be taken off. 2. Cooler plumbing is part metal, part rubber, and the worst part, the rubber bit is in a concealed area of the block and prone to heat failure. Unpredictable failures too; the one on my Tiago JTP gave way around 24k kms, but there was a Nexon with the same issue at the ASC, with ~6k on the odo. Multiple replacements as the kms pile up is not unheard of. P.S. In my case, thankfully, I only had to deal with the busted cooler hose leading to loss of coolant, no oil mixing. Also happened late at night on an open stretch of airport road near Yelahanka AFB, so I could immediately park safely to wait for a tow. I never could trust that car for long drives again. Sold it a year later with 38k on the odo. All the free warranty replacements can’t compensate for the flawed design choices and lack of confidence in the motor. A shame, really, because it was arguably the most engaging small car I’ve driven. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
