Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath on Friday visited flood-hit colonies in Baghlingampally, Domalguda and Ashoknagar, after heavy rains left several low-lying areas waterlogged. He also promised urgent measures to address recurring inundation. At Sriramnagar Colony in Baglingampally, where residents reported that nearly 450 homes were flooded, locals explained that rainwater previously drained into the Hussainsagar nala through vacant land but now stagnates due to damaged pipelines. In response, the commissioner announced the construction of a new canal through govt land to divert floodwater to the nala. He also inspected excavation work and pumping operations. Clarifying that the land belongs to the govt, he said that any private ownership claims could be addressed through Transferable Development Rights (TDR) compensation, but emphasized that blocking pipelines would not be tolerated. In Domalguda’s Gagan Mahal area, residents blamed silt buildup and encroachments inside the Hussainsagar nala for repeated flooding. Ranganath climbed onto submerged apartment terraces to assess the situation and assured residents that, once water levels recede, JCBs would be deployed for desilting and clearing of obstructions. In Ashoknagar, residents reported that floodwaters from Indira Park accumulate up to six feet deep, as illegal structures have narrowed the stormwater channel, leading to the collapse of a retaining wall near a temple. The commissioner ordered the immediate reconstruction of the wall and directed that the nala be widened to prevent future flooding.
