Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has accused the ruling Congress party leaders of running a major sand mining and transportation/sale scam across the State in the name of sand requirement for the construction of Indiramma houses.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday along with BRS students’ wing president Gellu Srinivas Yadav, he said they (BRS) had staged a protest in Tekumatla mandal in Bhupalapally constituency against illegal sand mining going on there, but there was no response from the government machinery.
He alleged that a few Congress leaders who were involved in the illegal sand mining were holding counter-protests against the ones being staged by BRS.
The police, instead of preventing illegal sand mining, are creating hurdles against the protests of BRS, he alleged. Not just in Bhupalapally constituency, but the illegal sand mining is going on across the Godavari Basin in the State with the active connivance of the Congress leaders, he alleged.
Non-allocation of funds to gram panchayats were making them grope in darkness and the government is hesitating to hold elections with the fear of defeat. He requested Minister Seethakka to respond and improve facilities in villages by releasing funds at least for Bathukamma and Dasara festivities.
