Kurnool SC/ST court convicts five in two cases of abusing woman


The SC/ST Court in Kurnool has convicted and sentenced five persons of a family to nine years and two months imprisonment in two cases of abusing a woman in the name of caste.

According to Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, the complainant Govindamma resides in Weaker Section colony under the IV Town police limits of Kurnool city. The five accused, N. Srinivasulu, his wife Saroja, Raju, Nagajyothi and Venkateshu alias Venkatesh, are neighbours of Ms. Govindamma.

On May 17, 2018, the five accused picked up an argument with Govindamma as the waste water from her house entered into their land and abused her in the name of her caste. In June, 2018, an argument broke out between the two families over the same issue and Srinivasulu attacked Ms. Govindamma.

Two separate cases have been filed by the IV Town police under various Sections of IPC and SC/ST Act and charge sheet filed and after trial, the court on Friday (September 19, 2025) sentenced the five accused to nine years and two months imprisonment. The court imposed a penalty of ₹25,000 on Srinivasulu and ₹20,000 each on the four other accused.
