US police to probe if techie authored online posts

Hyderabad: Police in California’s Santa Clara Thursday issued a search warrant to verify whether an online post alleging “racial discrimination” was authored by software engineer Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 35-year-old from Telangana’s Mahbubnagar district who was shot dead by police on Sept 3. The post appeared about eight hours before the shooting.Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) confirmed it was aware of the post attributed to Nizamuddin, in which he spoke of “racial discrimination” and blamed “white supremacy” for losing his job. The SCPD probe also covers the “officer-involved in the shooting.”As per SCPD, officers had responded to an emergency call about a stabbing at Nizamuddin’s residence on Eisenhower Drive. They claimed they found him armed with a knife and attacking his pinned-down roommate. One of the officers shot him after he allegedly refused to drop the weapon.Nizamuddin had been employed through a third-party agency until his termination in Feb 2024.In a detailed statement Thursday, police said he shared the residence with the injured roommate and two other tenants. Relations with the roommate had reportedly soured in recent months over household issues, including thermostat settings. Tensions peaked in July when he allegedly damaged property after an argument. The dispute escalated when the landlord initiated eviction proceedings. On Aug 29, the victim testified in court in support of the eviction, which police believe was a key trigger for the Sept 3 attack.Investigators are now piecing together the troubled final months of Nizamuddin’s life — marked by job loss, simmering domestic conflicts, and an anguished online outcry — culminating in a violent confrontation that ended with his death.
