Hyderabad: Officers of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad zonal unit, intercepted an Indian woman passenger who arrived from Dubai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Thursday and seized 12kg of ganja worth 12 crore.The DRI team initially found 6kg of hydroponic ganja during a detailed examination of her checked-in baggage, and immediately detained her. During questioning, the passenger disclosed that her second suitcase had not appeared on the conveyor belt and that she had already lodged a missing baggage complaint with the airline. The missing baggage was located and brought to Hyderabad by the airline on Friday, and opened in the presence of the DRI team and airline representatives. In the baggage, the DRI team found an additional 6kg of hydroponic ganja concealed in the clothes.Altogether, the international market value of the seized contraband is 12 crore. The accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and remanded to judicial custody on Friday. “The accused peddler is from Mumbai. She picked up the contraband from Bangkok and travelled to Hyderabad via Dubai. She was supposed to take the contraband to Mumbai. We are trying to identify the others involved in the racket,” said a DRI official.
