Honda City crushed by 8-ton load: Dealer repairs instead of total loss

Honda City crushed by 8-ton load: Dealer repairs instead of total loss BHPian Omkar recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Thanks to Harish K.P. for sending in the details. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP share page! Quote:Sharing a deeply concerning experience with a Honda authorised dealer – Olympia Honda, Ambattur – Chennai, and Tata AIG Insurance – involving an unsafe structural repair on my Honda City.Vehicle & Incident DetailsVehicle – Honda City 5G facelift Dealer – Olympia Honda, Ambattur – Chennai Purchase Date – July 2023 Accident Date – May 2025 Incident – A massive 8-tonne load fell from a moving truck onto my car- my vehicle was in motion. Damage – Major structural components were affected – A-pillar, B-pillar, roof rail, rocker sill, apron, floor pan, and rear quarter panel. Currently, painting work is ongoing after sectional frame replacements- a cosmetic cover-up, not a structural restoration.Key Issues:No Shell Replacement Policy:The dealer staff admitted that Honda India no longer provides full BIW shells, even in cases of critical structural damage. However, they avoid giving this in writing.Honda’s Silence:Despite raising multiple complaints to Honda customer care, I received no meaningful response or escalation- only silence.Dealer Pressure:The dealer never pushed for a CTL and instead pressured me to proceed with the repair, warning that parking charges would increase daily.Tata AIG’s Convenient Approval: With RTI cover in place and the estimate kept under 75% of the IDV (since the car was less than 2 years old), Tata AIG approved sectional repairs. I have been requesting the surveyor report since June 3rd, with multiple escalations – but still no response. Unethical Repair:Instead of ensuring factory-level repair, the car is being stitched together with new frame components, with no structural assurance provided in writing. This case is a clear example of how they prioritise profit over customer safety and ethics. The car is now cosmetically repaired but structurally compromised, and I’ve been left without options or support. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
