BHPian saikishor recently shared this with other enthusiasts: My aunt picked up a Wagon R ZXi recently, despite my telling them to go for the top spec ZXi+. I drove the car for 15km, and here are my very brief observations: The car had 2000km on the odo. First service was done. The engine is a peach, honestly. There is power everywhere. Floor the throttle and irrespective of the gear, the car lunges forward with enthusiasm. Such a delight for city conditions. Mind you, this is the 1.2 petrol version. As much as I loved the engine, I equally hated the AMT gearbox. I cannot live with such a gearbox. There was a prominent head nod during shifts. And goes without saying, the gearshifts were very, very slow. I think you need to be trained or need to get used to driving an AMT. The best way to drive an AMT is to lift your foot off the accelerator when the gear change occurs. You need to predict the gear changes based on your driving style. Brakes were fine. Suspension setup was also fine. No complaints. Body roll was more than a comparable hatchback of its size, obviously due to the height and tall-boy nature of the Wagon R. Steering feel has improved from what I previously read. The steering returns to the center effortlessly during U-turns and has sufficient weight to it. Feel and feedback was also decent considering the segment and the nature of the car. AC was an absolute chiller. Horn felt like it was lifted from a Honda Activa. Sense of space one gets in the interiors of the car because of the tall boy nature. Overall, a decent city dweller, minus the AMT. If I had to buy this car, it would be in the top spec ZXi+ guise in manual. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
