Kurnool Collector urges people to hand over garbage to sanitation workers

Cleanliness drives marked the ‘Swatchtha Hi Seva’ programmes taken up under the banner of ‘Ek Din, Ek Gantha, Ek Saath’ across the districts on Thursday.

In Kurnool, Collector A. Siri cleaned the streets at Sankal Bagh along with the sanitation workers. Speaking on the occasion, she said that it was the responsibility of every individual to keep their house as well as the surroundings neat and clean. She urged the people to hand over garbage to the sanitation workers and not to throw them on the roads or in canals.

“Keeping the surroundings clean will ensure protection of environment and also prevent spread of diseases,” she said. Interacting with the sanitation workers, the Collector asked them to wear gloves and masks while taking up sanitation works.

In Nandyal, Collector Rajakumari Ganiya participated in the cleanliness drive at the SC welfare boys hostel-1 at Devnagar. She asked the students to keep the premises clean and maintain hygienic conditions. She said ‘sramadanam’ should be taken up at all social welfare, model schools, KGBVs, tribal welfare and minority welfare hostels.

She urged the people to participate in cleaning their surroundings for an hour and keep their environments clean for their own health. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya said that people were keeping their houses clean, but throwing garbage from their houses on the streets. “Garbage will be converted into manure using scientific methods and will be supplied to farmers”, she said, asking people to dispose garbage in a responsible manner.

Anantapur Collector O. Anand took part in cleanliness drive at the village secretariat of Kakkalapalli Colony in Anantapur Rural mandal along with local sarpanch and public representatives. He said the programme was held in more than 500 villages and municipalities across the district.
