Santhapeta police and Fire Department rushed to the spot as soon as they received information by 9 p.m. Nellore District Fire Officer Srinivasa Reddy said, “Two fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire was controlled within half an hour of effort. The fire must be caused by a short circuit,” he said.
The property damage is estimated to be around ₹10 lakh. However, the Revenue Department officials will ascertain the actual loss of the material owing to the fire accident. Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Y.O. Nandan also reached the spot and inspected the damaged shops.
Meanwhile, the shopkeepers have reportedly raised doubts about non-functioning of more than 34 cameras in the area for the past 15 days. They have requested the authorities to conduct an investigation and compensate them for the loss.
