I attended Racing Concept’s beginner car racing program: My experience BHPian apex.nut recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Car Racing Schools In IndiaI was looking for racing schools in India a few months ago, though mostly to learn track driving and have fun – not to actually race, and what I found is that there are a number of schools / academies / programs being run by different people but not too many of them are very long. Most tend to be 1/2/3 day long and sort of give you a crash course on the skills you are trying to learn but beyond that it’s upto you to go to tracks / track days and practice yourself and become better. Here is a list of some schools/programs I found in my research (from googling, asking around, following practically everyone motorsport related account on Instagram, asking ChatGPT, etc):Touring Car racing- Race Concepts Bangalore (1day ~25K / 2day ~75K)Formula (Open Wheel racing)- Momentum Motorsport Chennai – DTS Racing ThrissurDrift- Bad BOI Drifts Gurgaon (1day – ~1.5L) – Virtual racing hub Delhi (1day ~1.5L) – Driftgasm Mumbai (2hr ~45K/ 1day ~1.2L/ 2day ~3.2L)Rally- Chetan Shivram School Bangalore (2d ~75K) – Kari Speedway / Fab Sports Coimbatore (1day ~25K) – Iyer Rallying Mysuru – Arka Motorsport Coimbatore (many program from 2hr to 3day) – Snap Racing B’loreAutoX- Ablaze Motorsport B’lore (1d ~15K – run both tarmac & dirt AutoX programs) – VSK racing Kochi / Thrissur (1d ~20K / 1 day /mo for 6mo – 10K/mo) You can follow them on Instagram & stay updated with the programs they run from time to time.Race Concepts Beginner ProgramI had done the 1 day beginner program from Race Concepts a few weeks back at GP1 track in Bangalore and it was a great learning experience & also quite fun. Race concepts is arguably the most successful team in Indian National Car Racing Championship (also called the National Touring Car Championship) and as I understand, this program also serves as a funnel towards finding promising drivers that can race their cars some day.The structure was as follows:1. They started with some theory on seating position, how to steer, where to look, what not to do, etc 2. This was followed by guided and solo runs in Go-karts to help us learn / understand the track & racing lines in a relatively low risk way. 3. This was followed by guided & solo runs in stock street cars (Honda City Gen 3). An ex-national champion ‘Rithvik Thomas’ (he is competing in 2025 too for Race Concepts in the IJTC category) first drove the car around the track with me in the passenger seat & showing me which line to take, where to brake, when to accelerate etc. This was then followed by him riding in the passenger seat with me driving to give me ‘in-the-moment’ feedback on what mistakes I were making, if I were breaking too much or too little in any of the turns, what I need to do to take any corner with more control & speed, etc. This part was the best in terms of learning because of the truly actionable feedback given by RT and made me grow as a track drivers in a matter of 30 minutes. 4. This was then followed by me taking solo runs in Race Concepts’ 2021 National Championship winning Super Stock Honda City VTECs. Safe to say this was an exhilarating experience as these race cars were awesome in how they felt and were truly amazing to drive. Initially they were scary (also contributed to how loud they are ) but as the laps went by, I was able to start pushing the car closer to it’s limits and really appreciate the difference between street cars and race cars. The day long program went from roughly 10 AM to 5PM and the price covered everything including instructions, cars, track, fuel & a reasonable lunch. All we had to do was show up and enjoy. It was a shame that it rained in the afternoon thus taking away some precious ‘seat time’ in the race car but I felt I learnt a lot nevertheless and am now much more comfortable taking my own car to track days and starting to practice & improve on my own. The 1 day program I did was their beginner program. They also have a 2 day intermediate program with a lot more racing techniques involved & a lot more seat time hosted at COASTT Coimbatore. Here are some pictures from the day: Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
