Vijayawada: Tragedy struck Jagananna Colony near Chalivendra in Darsi mandal of Prakasam district as 11-year-old twin brothers, Akhil and Nikhil, drowned in a rainwater-filled pit during a holiday visit to their grandmother’s house.According to police, the boys were sons of Prameela, a native of Lurthagiri Colony in Erraobanapalli panchayat. Prameela had been living in Vijayawada as a daily wage laborer, separated from her husband, and raising her children independently.The twins, Class VI students, had arrived at their maternal grandmother Kotamma’s house on Wednesday to spend the Dasara holidays. On Thursday evening, they entered a large pit filled with rainwater near the colony along with another boy, Chinna. While Chinna escaped, Akhil and Nikhil drowned. Family members rushed to the spot and shifted the boys to Darsi Government Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.Prameela, upon hearing the news, rushed from Vijayawada and broke down inconsolably at the sight of her sons.SI Murali confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
