Road trip to the mountains: How we spent our 2nd day in Ladakh

Road trip to the mountains: How we spent our 2nd day in Ladakh BHPian PointZero recently shared this with other enthusiasts:2nd Day in Ladakh: Lamayuru – Alchi – Magnetic Hill – Sangam – LehThe day started even brighter than the one before. After a delightful breakfast, we set out for Leh. The distance wasn’t much-we could have easily covered it the previous day-but I decided to take some time at Alchi Monastery, especially since it was my sister’s first visit. Random from Lamayuru to Alchi Both the Lamayuru and Alchi areas were dotted with little blossoms, adding splashes of color to the rugged landscape. Spending time by the Indus River at Alchi is not just relaxing-it feels truly refreshing. I was driving the Ignis, and my brother was in the THAR. As I turned off toward the monastery, I suddenly realized he hadn’t even noticed the turn and drove straight toward Leh! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7KKfYKkoao At Alchi The monastery’s surroundings had been freshly painted, and the path to the riverside looked inviting, yet the monastery itself still held the glory of over 950 years of history. We-my sister, brother-in-law, and I-spent a long, peaceful time sitting by the river, soaking in the beauty, and then enjoyed some food outside the monastery before continuing our journey. Sangam The next two stops were Magnetic Hill and Sangam (Indus-Zanskar Confluence). Just before reaching Leh, the weather suddenly took a dramatic turn. Dark clouds, a dust storm, and strong winds made it almost impossible to step out of the car. I tried going out a couple of times but even opening the door was a struggle against the wind. Then, just a few kilometers before Leh’s Hall of Fame, the weather suddenly cleared, turning pleasant and welcoming. For a moment, I couldn’t help but recall the famous but boring tagline: “Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai” https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rXKnnLMoHkM https://www.youtube.com/shorts/E-DGfNPXKgU https://www.youtube.com/shorts/51LENDxsddM https://www.youtube.com/shorts/b38sBQEr1Z4 We met the Thar in Leh. While we had spent a long time in Alchi, the other car had reached earlier and was enjoying coffee after visiting the Hall of Fame. After meeting them, we went together to Mr. Dorjay’s stay. It had been around six years since we last met. Although we often talked over chat and calls, seeing each other after so many years showed how much we had all changed. I had transformed from a young man into middle age, while Mr. Dorjay had aged gracefully but was still full of energy and humor. Right after the meeting, he jokingly nicknamed Kiriti the “Animal Guy” because of his beard. Leh Before heading to Leh market for some souvenirs, we spent some fun moments at Dorjay’s place with guitars and music, laughing and chatting together.
