Telangana districts continue to bear the brunt, toll rises to 46

Hyderabad: The death toll in rain-related incidents across the state this season rose to 46, with the officials on Saturday retrieving the body of a man who was washed away in a stream in Vikarabad district. The victim, who is yet to be identified, tried to cross the stream but was swept away by the heavy flow of water in Sultanpur Vaagu in Kothapalli village on Friday.Several districts across the state continue to bear the brunt of heavy rains, with roads cut off and streams overflowing. In Nawabpet mandal, police rescued a man who was stranded on a bridge submerged by rainwater. The man, R Kumariah, was pulled to safety using a proclainer.In another incident, residents of Sripuram village in Marpalli mandal struggled to cross a flooded stream to perform the last rites of an 80-year-old woman. Finally, they arranged a tractor and transported the body across the stream to complete the final rites.In Warangal, a youth had a narrow escape after being swept away along with his motorcycle in a stream between Mulugupalli and Amshapur in Mahamutharam mandal. He managed to swim to safety. Meanwhile, several roads in Sangareddy district were severely damaged, with the Saipur-Ananthasagar stretch being the worst-hit.Low-lying areas of Vikarabad, reeling under continuous downpours, were inundated in Puduru and Doma mandals. The Peddavagu and Kankal Peddachervu streams overflowed, flooding nearby areas, including a burial ground. Traffic between Parigi and Vikarabad was disrupted due to waterlogging and damaged roads. In Tandur’s Ogipur village, locals rescued passengers from a lorry stranded in floodwaters. Using ropes, they managed to pull those stranded to safety.In Medak, floodwaters once again surrounded the Edupayala Vanadurga temple. In Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, heavy rains cut off several villages in Mahadevpur mandal, including Annaram, Nagapalli, and Maddulapalli villages.Meanwhile, the Godavari water levels at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district continued to rise on Saturday. By evening, the water level stood at 44.10 ft, surpassing the first warning level of 43 ft. The highest rainfall of 131 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sept 27 was recorded at Mominpet in Vikarabad district. Between 8:30 am and 7 pm on Saturday, the Ligaipalle village of Paapannapet mandal in Medak district recorded the highest rainfall of 104 mm.Meanwhile, the IMD predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places across the state on Sunday. It said heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in all districts, it said.
