National BC Dal president Dundra Kumaraswamy appealed to people not to obstruct the 42% quota for Backward Classes. At a press conference in the city on Sunday, he said that even after 75 years of Independence, Backward Classes have not received reservations in proportion to their population and continue to remain backward in fields of education, employment, socio-economic and political spheres. He said that as the result of decades of BC struggles, the TG government has taken the decision to enhance quota to 42% and issued a special GO describing it as a historic decision and a new chapter in the history of social justice.
The Congress government has taken key decisions for the welfare of the weaker sections, he said. Referring to the Kamareddy BC Declaration, he noted that caste census was successfully conducted. Though the Assembly had approved the amendment to Section 285 (A) of the Panchayat Raj Act 2018, keeping it pending with the Governor amounts to blocking the rights of BCs, he strongly criticised. Mr. Kumaraswamy asserted that forces opposing reservations will be taught a fitting lesson through the democratic weapon of vote.
