Several people were shot at a Mormon church in Michigan, with authorities confirming that they have neutralised the shooter on Sunday.The incident occurred at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, with the assailant neutralised, authorities confirmed Sunday. The incident took place approximately 50 miles north of Detroit, and the church building caught fire during the event, as reported by Associated Press.Officials confirmed there is no continuing danger to the public, though specifics about the victims’ status remain undisclosed.Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson confirmed the evacuation of the area and the presence of both local and federal law enforcement. He stated, “The entire church is on fire. This is a dynamic scene.” He indicated that additional information would be provided later, noting that ongoing operations limited immediate communication.The affected church, situated amongst residential areas and adjacent to a Jehovah’s Witness church in Grand Blanc, is surrounded by a car park and expansive lawn. Grand Blanc, a community of approximately 8,000 residents, lies just beyond Flint.Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her sorrow for the Grand Blanc community, stating, “Violence anywhere especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.”The incident coincidentally occurred the day following the death of Russell M. Nelson, the eldest president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who passed at age 101. According to church protocols, Dallin H. Oaks is expected to assume leadership of the faith, commonly known as the Mormon church.
