Two held for circulating derogatory video targeting Kadapa MLA | Vijayawada News


Vijayawada: Two individuals were arrested by Kadapa police for allegedly creating and circulating a derogatory video targeting Kadapa MLA Reddappagari Madhavi. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by her husband, Reddappagari Srinivasa Reddy, a politburo member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the current district president of the party in Kadapa.According to the complaint filed on Thursday, Srinivasa Reddy stated that certain individuals, who had earlier been expelled from the TDP, recorded a video using abusive and obscene language against his wife, Madhavi. He alleged that the video was made with the deliberate intention of humiliating the MLA, damaging her reputation, and creating discord among different social groups. The complainant further claimed that the video was shared on Facebook from a page named ‘Kandukuru Kumar’ and was later circulated by several others, including one Ismail Basha, without consideration for its impact.Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. During the investigation, police identified and arrested two accused, Vijaya Lakshmi alias Vijaya Reddy, who allegedly used objectionable language in the video, and Ismail Basha, who is accused of sharing the content online. Both were subjected to counseling and served legal notices.Police are now tracking the individuals behind the ‘Kandukuru Kumar’ Facebook page, which was reportedly used to initiate the circulation of the video. Police said they are using technical assistance to identify the persons responsible and assured that those involved would be apprehended soon. Meanwhile, around 15 Facebook pages that had shared the objectionable video have been taken down.DSP Venkateswarlu warned the public to exercise caution before posting or forwarding content on social media. He emphasized that any material targeting women or causing distress to individuals would invite stringent legal action. He further noted that the police would not hesitate to open rowdy sheets against repeat offenders who misuse social media platforms for harassment or defamation.Inspector Ramakrishna of Kadapa One Town police station confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that police are committed to bringing all those responsible for the incident to justice.
