French tyre maker Michelin has unveiled its first made-in-India car tyre. It will be manufactured at the brand’s Chennai factory. The locally manufactured Michelin range of tyres is meant for premium cars and SUVs and includes models like the Pilot Sport 5, Primacy 5 and LTX series. The tyres will be available in different sizes from 16 to 22 inches. Michelin says that the made-in-India tyres are still undergoing testing and certification and are expected to go on sale in the first half of 2026. The first model to be launched will be the Primacy 5. Michelin’s Chennai plant has been set up at a cost of Rs 686 crore. The company claims that the 22,000 sq. m. facility uses 45% recycled materials in production. Michelin aims to increase this to 50% by 2030, with a long-term goal of manufacturing 100% sustainable tyres by 2050.
