A ceremonial parade was organised at the Telangana police headquarters in Lakdikapul on Tuesday to mark the retirement of Telangana DGP Jitender.

A ceremonial parade was organised at the Telangana police headquarters in Lakdikapul on Tuesday to mark the retirement of Jitender, who completed a tenure of over 15 months as Director General of Police (DGP).

The ‘Pulling Out Ceremony’, attended by several senior IPS officers, celebrated his contributions to law enforcement and public service across the State.

Assuming office on July 10, 2024, DGP Jitender brought extensive experience, having previously served as ADGP (Law and Order) for five years, as well as holding key positions including Director of Telangana Police Academy (TGPA), Principal Secretary (Home), Superintendent of Police of Mahabubnagar and Guntur, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), and leadership of Greyhound, earning the prestigious Gallantry Award.

Early in his career, he served as SP at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi.

During his tenure, the official emphasised people-centric policing, introducing initiatives such as the E-Challan system, Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) project, and copless junctions, ensuring cashless and contactless traffic enforcement, reduced public grievances, and increased transparency and accountability.

He also launched a QR code-based citizen feedback system for police stations and instituted extensive training programmes for Station House Officers (SHOs) to strengthen direct engagement with people.

Under his guidance, law and order across Telangana remained robust, with major festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi passing without incident.

Measures to curb Maoist influence (with several top-level cadres surrendering and receiving rehabilitation support), tackle organised crime, and control cybercrime were a hallmark of his administration, alongside efforts to return victims’ funds in financial fraud cases and promote awareness to prevent future crimes.

Mr. Jitender also prioritised education and welfare, establishing the Young India Police School to provide quality education for police families, and getting 30% allowance to boost morale of police personnel in specialised units such as the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE).

On the national stage, Telangana Police under his leadership ranked first in the India Justice Report 2025. The State’s contingent also excelled at the All India Police Duty Meet, winning 17 medals and topping the overall medal tally, showcasing discipline, skill, and competitive excellence.

His tenure further included oversight of disaster response during floods and heavy rains, highway traffic management, and the launch of Tourism Police with personnel deployed at nine key locations.

The day concluded at the DGP office as IPS officers felicitated the outgoing DGP Jitender and his successor B. Shivadhar Reddy, who will assume charge as the new Telangana DGP on Wednesday.
