Twenty-eight inmates, including three women, from Telangana prisons completed their undergraduate education under Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), marking a milestone in the State’s correctional education initiative.
A total of 13 participants, including nine inmates from Central Prison Cherlapalli and Central Prison Hyderabad, as well as four released prisoners — three from Central Prison, Cherlapalli and one from Special Prison for Women, Hyderabad — were presented their graduation certificates by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma during the 26th convocation ceremony at the university on Tuesday.
Of the 28 graduates, 19 belonged to the 2023 batch and nine to the 2024 batch, covering students from the last two academic years.
During the ceremony, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Soumya Mishra lauded the graduates for their determination and encouraged them to continue their journey of self-improvement and responsible reintegration into society.
The Telangana Prisons Department said the success of these graduates reflects the sustained efforts of correctional education programmes aimed at reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration, helping prisoners transform into constructive and responsible members of society.
