Hiriyur — Challakere — Ballari bypass — Torangallu route The road from Hiriyur was a brilliant 4 lane with hardly any traffic. Except for the broken / under contruction section at D. Hirehal, the road was butter smooth. Google was suggesting getting off the highway at Rampura. Tried it for a kilometre and turned back since it seemed deserted. Continued all the way until Ballari bypass and took the Ballari ring road. The roads here went from decent to terrible in patches. Massive potholes created by the heavy truck traffic. Took a while to join the 4 lane Hosapete – Ballari road. It was smooth from thereon. On my return, tried the: Torangallu — Sandur — Chitradurga — Bangalore route. Although there was truck traffic on this route, the concrete roads meant the road was smooth to drive on throughout, except the speed bumps. Although a little longer, preferred this route to the Hiriyur route, for relatively better roads and because I avoid deserted stretches while driving with family.
