HYDERABAD: A 60-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a police constable’s sister and wife in his presence in Madannapet, Hyderabad, after she objected to his dog defecating outside her house.The incident, which occurred on Tuesday around 11:10 am, came to light on Wednesday. It was captured on CCTV, leading to charges against the constable’s family.According to Madannapet police, the complainant, identified as S Suwarna of the Mala community, confronted constable B Chandrakanth after his pet dog urinated near her house on her car. While the constable is attached to the Chikkadpally police station, the three were booked under the relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, assault, and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.“On Tuesday morning, she questioned him about allowing the dog to defecate or urinate in front of her home and near her car, which initially led to a heated exchange. Following this, an aggressive Chandrakanth called his sister, Rajani, and then his wife, Annapurna. There is no past history between them,” said a sub-inspector from the Madannapet police. “He also abused, threatened and hurled some casteists slurs at her.”The official added that the constable’s sister and wife soon arrived at the scene and physically attacked Suwarna.CCTV footage circulating on social media initially shows that while Suwarna tried to escape, one of the women (Chandrakanth’s sister) slapping and punching Suwarna on the face and head. The constable then handed her a plastic pipe and Rajani struck the elderly woman multiple times. The second woman (wife) joined shortly after and continued the assault. The visuals also show bystanders watching the incident unfold but failing to intervene or stop the attack. “The woman received multiple injuries on her head and face, along with other bodily injuries. She was taken for treatment and is now in a stable condition,” said the SI.The Madannapet police registered a case under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons), 352 r/w 3(5) (intentional insult) and are investigating further.
