The Cincinnati Reds tweeted about first baseman Sal Stewart’s clutch, two-RBI single during the top of the 1st inning of Game 2 of their National League wild-card series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Stewart, just 21 years old, made his first-ever postseason start. His hit gave the Reds an early 2-0 lead.
The Reds also tweeted that Stewart is the youngest position player to appear in a postseason game in franchise history.
“You know what? He had a good at-bat,” Reds manager Terry Francona told ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez during the game. “He didn’t hit it like, you know, 100 miles per hour, but he used the whole field. He didn’t give in. And because of the guys being on base, we get to play with a lead.”
Moments earlier, an error by Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernandez gave the Reds runners at second and third, but ESPN broadcasters Jon Sciambi and Doug Glanville suggested that Gavin Lux could’ve scored a run if he had been running hard.
“Lux is kinda cruising in,” Glanville said during the broadcast replay. “You’ve got to go! Might be able to score a run there.”
“It didn’t look like Lux was going at full speed there,” Sciambi added.
