Tata overtakes Mahindra to claim 2nd spot in September sales Tata Motors became the second largest car maker in terms of sales in the month of September, surpassing Mahindra, which dropped to third place. According to the Vahan registration data, Tata sold 40,068 units in September 2025 compared to 37,451 units by Mahindra. Maruti Suzuki remained in the top spot with 1,22,785 units. Tata Motors’ domestic wholesales in September 2025 stood at 59,667 units, its highest ever. EV sales surged by 96% YoY to 9,191 units, while CNG sales reached an all-time high of over 17,800 units. New bookings doubled in the latter half of September, following the GST rate cut. With over 22,500 units sold in a single month, the Nexon registered the highest-ever sales for a Tata passenger vehicle. In Q2 of FY2025, Tata delivered 1,44,397 vehicles, registering a growth of more than 10% YoY. EVs contributed to a record 17% of overall sales. Quarterly EV sales surged 59% YoY to nearly 25,000 units.
