Samsung’s launching a new foldable phone that you can’t buy

Samsung has another foldable phone launch lined up and it’s going to take place next week. It’s not the highly anticipated tri-fold phone, that’s expected to arrive towards the end of this month, but a specific variant of its current flagship foldable.

The company is going to unveil a new foldable phone which will only be available to customers in one specific country and won’t be sold anywhere else.

The W series set to get an upgrade

Samsung has put up teasers for the device’s launch in China. It’s basically the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a few cosmetic changes. Samsung launches its foldable phones under the W brand in China. Since last year’s phone was called the W25, this wil likely be launched as the W26.

The teaser Samsung has put up suggests a familiar cosmetic change for the device. It will likely feature a golden frame paired with a black shell, a combination that appears to do well among customers in the country.

Specs-wise, the W26 will likely be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though it remains to be seen if Samsung will utilize the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for this device in China like it does everywhere else.

Samsung doesn’t sell its W series foldables anywhere outside of China. The company doesn’t find much traction for its smartphones in the People’s Republic anymore. Its market share in the country isn’t much more than a rounding error, but it continues to try and exist in the foldable space, despite some excellent foldable phones already being offered by local manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei.

The Samsung W26 will be officially unveiled at 4PM local time in China on October 11.
