Did a Hyderabad – Goa round trip: Updates on route & road condition

Did a Hyderabad – Goa round trip: Updates on route & road condition BHPian abinash.mechi recently shared this with other enthusiasts: I did Hyd to Goa on 27th. Followed the route Hyd – Solapur – Miraj – Chikodi – Nipani – Gandhinglaj – Ajara – Amboli – Mapusa – Panjim There was heavy rain on that way throughout the journey and we started really late from Hyderabad around 12 noon.Miraj to Chikodi was a nightmare, with more potholes than actual road; at one point a thought flashed across my mind as to what would I do if suspension or alloy breaks. It was that bad. After Chikodi, route shown by Google was to proceed till Sankeshwar, which was even more disastrous. In the nick of time, I recalled discussions on this forum and turned around after around 2km and proceeded on the Nipani route. It was a good decision as road is very good.Just before Nipani, Google rerouted us to an interior road, which I failed to notice. It was night and the road was completely deserted; absolutely nothing around. Perfect spot for untoward incidents. As mentioned, strictly follow the highway. Reached Panjim around 01:15 AM. Returned from Goa for Hyd around 10 AM on 1st October. Route: Mapusa – Assonora – Tillari Ghat – Chandangad – Gandhinglaj – Nipani – Chikodi – Solapur – Hyderabad. Few Observations:Although, road via Tilari Ghat is good and is really scenic with lots of greenery, the number of sharp hairpin bends is much more on this route as compared to the Anjara – Amboli ghats. Also, I felt that it is better to take Tilari Ghat route while going to Goa and not while returning from Goa, since almost entire ghat section is a steep ascend from Goa side.As compared to the Ajara – Amboli route, Tilari route passes through many small hamlets and therefore slows you down. It took us almost 1.5 hours extra via Tilari Ghat.Avoided Nipani – Chikodi – Miraj on the return leg due to the horrible experience during the onward journey. Took the Nipani – Akkol – Bedakihal – Miraj instead. Roads were very good, except 2-3 very small patches. Both legs consisted of 2-3 tea breaks, 2 refueling breaks and one lunch break. Remember, fuel in Karnataka is cheaper as compared to Telangana, Maharashtra and Goa; so plan your refuel stops smartly. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
