Maruti Suzuki has become the first carmaker to transport vehicles to the Kashmir Valley via Indian Railways. The first train carrying over 100 vehicles was recently flagged off from the newly inaugurated Manesar in-plant railway siding. It reached Anantnag, more than 850 km away, via the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “Apples from the valley were already transported using this rail link. Now, Maruti Suzuki cars will also reach the region efficiently. This line is a game changer for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.” “Railway dispatches are central to our operations,” Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said. “The Chenab arch bridge enables seamless connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, allowing us to better serve customers in the region,” he added.
