No injustice to farmers in RRR project, says Komatireddy

Hyderabad: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday assured farmers that there was no need for concern regarding compensation for lands acquired for the southern corridor of the Regional Ring Road (RRR).“Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and I will move forward only with farmers’ consent. I am a farmer’s son and will never allow injustice to them. A ministerial committee will soon be constituted to address concerns related to land acquisition and alignment,” Venkat Reddy told reporters in Chityal. He reiterated that the RRR alignment would ensure equal treatment for all, saying, “As a son of Nalgonda soil, I will never remain silent if any injustice is done to farmers or our region.” The minister said the tender process for the northern corridor of the RRR will begin within two months, with works expected to start by Jan 2026. The process will be completed by Dec to ensure a swift rollout. Criticising the previous BRS govt, Venkat Reddy said only 6 per cent of land acquisition was completed when he assumed office, compared to over 98% achieved now. “The former KCR govt showed no concern for this crucial project despite central approval in 2017-18,” he alleged. He announced that the original four-lane RRR has been redesigned as a six-lane road, keeping in view projected traffic by 2035. The 161.5 km northern corridor will pass through Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir, and Choutuppal. A total of ₹6,000 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, with costs shared equally by the state and Centre. The state’s ₹3,000 crore share has already been arranged through a HUDCO loan. Venkat Reddy said CM Revanth and he met Union minister Nitin Gadkari and central officials recently, receiving positive support. He confirmed there will be no change in alignment, and works on the northern corridor will begin in Jan.The minister also announced that the eight-lane Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway work will commence by Feb 2026, while criticising the previous BRS govt for selling the Outer Ring Road for ₹7,000 crore, now valued at ₹1.5 lakh crore, and for neglecting farmers’ welfare.
