The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has issued a public alert urging people to stop using Coldrif Syrup, batch no. SR-13, following reports of child deaths in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan allegedly linked to the consumption of the drug.

According to the DCA, the batch in question, manufactured by Sresan Pharma, Sunguvarchathiram, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, has been reportedly adulterated with Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a toxic substance. The affected batch bears manufacturing date of May 2025 and expiry date of April 2027.

The administration asked people to immediately discontinue the use of the syrup if they possess it and to report it to the nearest Drugs Control office. Citizens can also contact the Telangana DCA through the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, available from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all working days.

Officials of the Telangana DCA are coordinating with their counterparts in Tamil Nadu to trace the distribution of the contaminated batch within the State. All Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors have been directed to alert retailers, wholesalers, and hospitals to freeze any stocks of the said batch if found in circulation. The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, is taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety, said a release.
