Took my Tiago EV on a 1,500 km road trip: Pleasantly surprised! BHPian Thilak29 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Over the past four days, I took my Tiago EV on a 1500 km journey to Kanyakumari and back, traversing the length of Kerala. This was my second major solo EV road trip after a gap of nearly two years , so I wanted to share some crisp observations. Compared to the latest higher-capacity EVs, my car needed more frequent charging stops and was slower to recharge. However, ongoing roadwork on NH66 capped the average speeds for large stretches of the route, which surprisingly made it easier to align charging breaks with meal stops, sightseeing, shopping, or leisurely strolls-so I was hardly ever waiting just for the charging to finish. I kept an eye on the charger status throughout, and there were thankfully no interruptions or issues at any stop; the charging points themselves were well chosen and reliable, with no power supply or hardware hiccups. While Auto Charging wouldn’t enable for me on ChargeMOD but Zeon system performed flawlessly-at Cassia, Alappuzha, it triggered charging in just two seconds. I faced no problems with ICE vehicles blocking chargers, nor any unhelpful behavior from other EV users. On open stretches, I didn’t hold back and regularly took the car to its capped speed limit. While I didn’t track charging costs or stops meticulously, and wasn’t hypermiling, the Tiago still returned a respectable 9 km per unit of electricity. If Kerala like EV penetration is replicated in country, what a nice thing it would be! Looking ahead, as I consider replacing my Jeep Compass next year, an EV offering 500+ km of usable range is firmly on my shortlist. Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.
